$61 Adoption Fee Reduced to $21 as Part of ‘Summer of Love’ Promotion

CLEVELAND — The City of Cleveland's Division of Animal Care & Control has 90 dogs ready to be adopted into forever homes. The number of dogs at the city kennel increases following the Fourth of July holiday when pets run away from home frightened by fireworks.

The normal $61 fee will be reduced to just $21 this extended weekend only – now through Sunday, July 8. All adoptable dogs are vaccinated, microchipped, spayed/neutered, and come with a Cuyahoga County license. Normal adoption processes and policies will be followed during the „Summer of Love‟ reduced fee event.

"The Fourth of July is one of the busiest days of the years for us because so many dogs run away during celebrations and fireworks,” said Michelle Harvanek, Adoption/Volunteer Coordinator. “We are already quite full and expect to fill up even more during the coming days, so we are hoping to find homes for dogs ready to be adopted.”

The Division is also encouraging owners to look at the kennel if their pet goes missing. Missing dog listings are posted here and updated regularly.

Adoptable CITY DOGS can be viewed at www.petango.com/cacc or at the kennel, located at 2690 W. 7 St. Regular open hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m. Walk in adoptions are welcome, but appointments are encouraged. Make an appointment to meet with an Adoption Counselor by emailing citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us or by calling the adoption hotline at 216-664-3476.

About CITY DOGS Cleveland

CITY DOGS is a program of Cleveland Animal Care and Control. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bull-type dogs who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be.
