The Department of Building and Housing registers building contractors, inspects all new and major rehabilitation construction, and provides nuisance abatement to condemned properties. The Director's office supervises and manages the Code Enforcement, Construction Permitting, and Records Administration Divisions.

  • Information on State Certification To Become A Building and Housing Employee

    A presentation was made by Cleveland's Department of Building and Housing to inform Clevelanders about Ohio's building department personnel certification process. The presentation included information on the application process, testing centers, certification tests and more. Certification is not a path to becoming a city employee, but it is a means to become certified by the State as a prerequisite for future positions.The power point information from the presentation is now available to all interested parties. 

  • Exterior Wall and Appurtenances Inspections Required for Some Buildings

    The Cleveland Codified Ordinance 3143.02 requires facade and exterior wall inspections on certain buildings including those which are taller than five stories and 75 feet, and those which are older than 30 years. Inspections must be performed by qualified inspectors.

    Qualified environmental surveying, environmental abatement, and/or demolition services contractors interested in providing bids for emergency demolition of unsafe structures are asked to contact the Department of Building and Housing.
