CPR Training & Health Screenings

Community Education and Training (CET) team works with both City-based and private organizations to train their employees and volunteers on the proper performance of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and the use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). CET also provides public education on the appropriate use of 911, and stroke awareness.

CET can administer health screenings at various community events. These include blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol testing. Organizations, including private businesses, can arrange for EMS personnel to provide these services at their establishment or event by emailing EMSCommunityEdu@clevelandohio.gov or calling 216.664.6010.

Communications and Dispatch

Communications and Dispatch is responsible for answering 911 calls and dispatching ambulances. By utilizing a state-of-the-art Computer Aided Dispatching system and call prioritizing software, these certified Emergency Medical Dispatchers can give callers pre-arrival medical instructions while ambulance is enroute. The Communications and Dispatch team also ensures that the most appropriate ambulance receives the information needed for emergency response in the most timely and efficient manner.

Ambulance/Field

This Ambulance/Field team works 24/7 to provide emergency medical response. At least two (2) personnel, at least one paramedic and one EMT - Ambulance/Field employees running advanced life support respond to 911 calls to treat and transport ill and injured Cleveland citizens and visitors. All other areas within the division work diligently in support of the Ambulance/Field team to ensure that these employees have the appropriate and necessary tools to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively.  EMS receives over 120,000 calls for service, responds to over 105,000 incidents and transports over 73,000 patients to area hospitals each year.
